The
Halifax Airport is outside the city proper so getting to and from
it is quite expensive Travel options to and from the airport can be found at The main (indeed the only official) shuttle bus to and
from the airport is the Airporter
By Train
The train
goes right downtown,
and the VIA rail strike is now resolved.
By Car
Take the 102 all the way to Halifax. (Don’t opt for Halifax Via Bridges, keep right and keep on the 102.) The 102 becomes Bayer’s Rd. as it ends in Halifax (about 39 km form the airport). Turn right at Oxford St. Take Oxford to Coburg Road (2.2 Km). Turn left at light, and in a few meters you are at King’s (on the right), Howe Hall comes up soon at 6230 Coburg (.3 Km,) and then on (1.4Km) for the Lord Nelson (at 1515 South Park). Parking
Those
staying at Howe Hall can purchase parking permits at Howe Hall
itself for $5 per day. Those staying off campus can purchase permits from Dalhousie Security in the basement of the McCain building 6135 University Avenue. These are $9 per day. In either case, the Dunn Parking lot, which is between Howe Hall and the King's Campus, would be appropriate, though any of the outside parking (unless specifically restricted) is OK. Underground parking areas are not open to those with these passes. |

Information about getting around town
Local
Orientation Coburg road
runs East and West. King’s College is at its west end. Heading east
toward the
Harbor, the street name changes to Spring Garden road at Robie Street
(.8 Km).
Spring Garden road contains a wide variety of restaurants and shops.
The Lord
Nelson is on the corner of Spring Garden and South Park.
Spring Garden ends at Barrington Street.
Turn left on Barrington, and any of the streets to the right will take
you down
to the Halifax Harbor; use Sackville for the Maritime Museum of the
Atlantic.
Right on Barrington will head you toward Bearly’s House of Blues, the
Henry
House brewpub, and the train station.
It might be
wise to bring an umbrella. This has been one of the wettest summers on
record
through out the North East. The (unreliable) long-range forecast
predicts sunny
days for the start of the conference on Sunday and Monday, temperature
25
C/77F, and thereafter a mix of sun and cloud and a few degrees cooler.
It
generally gets cool at night next to the sea (16C/60F).
A jacket is recommended for the cruise.
From King’s to Howe Hall along Coburg , 3 minutes; continuing east on Coburg/Spring Garden, the University Convenience store and Needs, 5 min, the Coburg Coffee House (8 minutes), Sages (5883 Spring Garden) 12 minutes, the Lord Nelson, 20 minutes, the Maritime Museum 30 minutes.
